Family holidays around Lake Serre-Ponçon
Space, nature and relaxation outside the peak season
Why the low season is perfect for families with young children
Our campsite has long been popular with retirees during the low season, as well as with young couples looking for peace and nature. What many people don’t realise is that the low season is also ideal for families with young children.
The temperatures are pleasant, the atmosphere is calm and prices are more attractive. And let’s be honest: nappies, ice creams and day trips can add up quickly. Personally, this is my favourite time of year — everything is in bloom and in the morning you wake up to birdsong and the sound of frogs in the pond on our campsite. Pure relaxation in the Hautes-Alpes.
A campsite by the water: swimming, playing and relaxing

Family activities: pony rides and nature experiences
One of the highlights for children is a pony or horse ride around the lakes. It’s a gentle and memorable way for young children to explore the area.
For more information, visit the Serre-Ponçon website, contact Marlène directly or let us arrange it for you.
Local markets and outings in the Hautes-Alpes
If you enjoy local markets, don’t miss Chorges market on Sunday mornings and Gap market on Saturday mornings. Strolling around, tasting local products and soaking up the atmosphere is all part of the holiday experience. At reception, we provide a full list of markets in the area.

Apiland – fun and educational for all ages
Apiland is a great outing for the whole family. This interactive centre explains the importance of bees in a fun and accessible way. You can also buy local honey and small souvenirs.

Hiking near Les Demoiselles Coiffées and Théus
The Demoiselles Coiffées are difficult to access with a pushchair, but keen hikers can easily take young children in a baby carrier. The walk near Théus, with waterfalls and impressive rock formations, is well worth the effort.
At reception, you’ll find maps and guides for more walks, cycling routes and outdoor activities.
Lake Serre-Ponçon: water, views and history
Just 20 minutes’ drive away lies the vast and beautiful Lake Serre-Ponçon. Perfect for walking, swimming, a boat trip or simply enjoying the scenery.
For those interested in local history, the Serre-Ponçon Muséoscope offers an engaging look at the lake’s past, told through the stories of villagers, farmers and the builders of the dam.

Spotting birds of prey and visiting the Parc Animalier
The Parc Animalier is a lovely family outing with stunning views over Lake Serre-Ponçon. The bird of prey show is particularly impressive. You may also spot birds of prey flying freely around the campsite.
Inspiration from other families
In the summer of 2025, the Les Hiboux family stayed at our campsite and shared their experience in a lovely travel blog.
